For those of you whose trash pickup schedules were affected by the snowfall, here’s what we know from some of our local areas about when you can expect pickups to resume:
**Updated for the 2/25-2/26 snowfall. Check back for updates!**
Virginia Beach
There will be no residential trash or recycle pickups on Thursday, 2/26.
Residential trash and recycle pickups will resume Friday. Because collections were suspended Thursday, Public Works crews may continue pickups on Saturday and Monday to catch up.
Chesapeake
Collection will be delayed somewhat – residents should put their automated containers out at the curb on their normal collection day and leave them until they are picked up. Crews will work as quickly as conditions allow, including working Saturday and Monday if necessary, to make all collections in as timely a manner as possible.
Portsmouth (UPDATED 2/27)
The Friday trash and recycling routes are being collected, yet due to icy road conditions in the neighborhoods, the routes will not be completed today. Residents are requested to leave containers out until they have been emptied this weekend or by early next week.
The Thursday trash and recycling collections are scheduled to be collected on Saturday. Like the Friday routes, residents are requested to leave containers out until they have been emptied this weekend or by early next week.
Norfolk
Residents whose trash was not picked up on Thursday due to the inclement weather should place their trash and recycling containers at the curb for collection tomorrow, Saturday, February 28.
Suffolk
Public Works will be picking up refuse as normal but will be running slightly behind their regular schedule.
Hampton
Trash and recycling collection — already delayed a week due to weather — will go on wherever possible. Residents are urged to leave bins at the curb. Staff will try to pick up Thursday’s routes on Wednesday.
Newport News
Trash and recycling collections were cancelled for Thursday, February 26th due to the snow. Public works crews will attempt to resume collections on Friday, February 27th. Because crews were unable collect items last week, there is a heavy volume of trash this week which had caused collections to run somewhat behind. Once collections resume, crews will begin with Wednesday’s routes that weren’t collected and then move on to Thursday’s routes. Crews will also work Saturday to service carts. Carts should be left curbside until they have been collected. Customers can call the city’s 311 Center at 933-2311 with questions.
York Co.
At this time Thursday’s collection will be on Friday, February 27th and Friday’s collection will be on Saturday, February 28th, weather permitting. Please check back for updates to this schedule.
Poquoson
Due to the predicted weather forecast, Friday’s Blue Route Recycling will be picked on Saturday, 2/28/15. Thursday’s garbage has been postponed to Friday.
Please note Friday’s pickup will be determined by the safety of road conditions.
