Hampton, Va. —Robert Jones of Hampton was ‘Right on the Money’ when he scratched his way to $1 million dollars.
Friday, Jones bought a scratch off ticket at Denbigh Food Mart on Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News.
“I did a fist pump and ran around the store,” he told Virginia Lottery officials when he claimed his prize.
Jones had the choice of taking the full $1 million prize over a 25-year course or a one-time cash option of $645,000 before taxes. He chose the cash option. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Right on the Money features prizes ranging from $20 up to $2.5 million. Jones is the ninth player to claim the second prize in Right on the Money, which means one $1 million ticket remains unclaimed. One $2.5 million ticket also remains unclaimed.
Jones, a devout truck owner/operator, now says he can get some sleep!
