Richmond, Va. – Katherine Godwin, widow of former Virginia governor Mills E. Godwin Jr., died Thursday morning at age 98.
Godwin died around 10:00 a.m., confirmed Suffolk delegate S. Chris Jones, who grew up a few doors down from the Godwin family.
Her husband served as governor as a Democrat from 1966 to 1970 and as a Republican from 1974 to 1978.
According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, the Godwin’s were major benefactors of Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, where the Katherine B. and Mills E. Godwin Jr. Hall was dedicated in 1999 to house the college’s administrative offices.
