Gloucester County, Va. (WTKR) -The mother of a man missing since 2011 believes human remains found over the weekend in Gloucester County are likely those of her son.
Michael "Craig" Conway was last seen in January 2011 along Brays Point Road.
Ever since, his mother Teresa Conway has searched for her son, wondering what happened.
On Saturday, she received a phone call from the Gloucester County Sheriff giving her notice that remains had been found.
Two people walking about a mile into the woods along George Washington Memorial Highway discovered a skull.
Investigators responded and searched the area, turning up additional bones and clothing.
It will be up to the Medical Examiner's officer to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.
Until that happens, the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office says they are unable to exclude or confirm any connection between Conway's disappearance and the remains.
Even so, Teresa Conway says she is pretty sure that the remains are her son.
She says it's made more difficult by the fact that the remains were found in an area previously searched.
"I searched those areas several times my family did too. We got together a search party. We had over 50 people and we actually searched that area," Conway told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo.
"I want to know what happened.I tried so hard to find him and I tried everything I could think of," she continued.
