Gloucester County, Va. - The human remains found March 21st in the Hayes area of Gloucester have been positively identified as Michael Craig Conway, who has been missing since 2011.
Conway was 26-years-old when he went missing that January. The Medical Examiner was able to positively identify his remains through collection of dental records and other investigative measures, according to the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office.
At this time, Conway's cause of death is still undetermined. The Medical Examiner reports that there did not appear to be any signs of trauma to his remains that would suggest otherwise.
As an extra step, his remains will be examined by an anthropologist in the coming months.
Conway lived with his mother in Hayes at the time of his disappearance. Ever since, Teresa Conway has searched for her son, wondering what happened. Just a day before this announcement was made regarding the positive identity, Teresa said she was pretty sure the remains were her son's.
She says it’s made more difficult by the fact that the remains were found in an area previously searched.
“I searched those areas several times my family did too. We got together a search party. We had over 50 people and we actually searched that area,” she said. “I want to know what happened.I tried so hard to find him and I tried everything I could think of."
The investigation into Conway's disappearance has never been closed. Gloucester County Sheriff's Investigators continue to look at all the facts and circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
