COLUMBUS, Ga. — A Georgia waitress is being honored for her honesty after she found an envelope full of cash at the restaurant where she works and quickly did the right thing.

Katessa Smith, also known as Tessa, has worked at Country’s Barbecue for about four years.

Smith said it was just a normal day at work until she came across that envelope while she was busing a table.

“When I grabbed it, it wouldn’t bend,” Smith said. “I opened it and I saw a lot of money in an envelope so I just went and found my manager.”

The single mother of two had found $1,300 on the table and immediately turned it in.

“Growing up we were always taught if you find something that’s not yours to give it back,” Smith said.

The restaurant began a social media hunt to find the rightful owners.

Smith said the restaurant looked back at surveillance footage to determine when the customers came in and left. Then they posted photos from the surveillance video on Facebook to see if anyone recognized the people.

The Country’s Barbecue post spread all over Facebook and the couple was finally located.
