Man arrested for Friday stabbing at Elizabeth City hotel

Elizabeth City, NC – A man was arrested after a stabbing in Elizabeth City in the early morning hours of Friday, April 10th.

Elizabeth City Police officers responded to the Quality Inn hotel at 522 S. Hughes Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. for a disturbance. When they arrived on scene, they spoke with the victim, Scottie Harper.

Harper told the officers he had been stabbed in the neck by Stephen O’Kelley during an altercation.

Harper was transported to Sentara Albemarle Hospital before being sent to Sentara Norfolk General for treatment.

O’kKelley was located by officers on the hotel grounds and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Assault With A Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury and taken to Albemarle District Jail after being processed.

Both men are residents of Walhalla, SC.

Since then the victim was released from the hospital, O’Kelley has posted bond and been released from jail.

Alcohol was a factor.
