Man charged after pointing gun during Newport News road rage incident

Newport News, Va. – A 37-year-old man was issued a summons Saturday after allegedly waving a gun around during a road rage incident.

Police were called to J. Clyde Morris Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue in reference to a person with a gun.

The 32-year-old victim reported that a man in a red Cadillac had pointed a gun at him and was now driving south on Jefferson Avenue. The victim said he was following behind the man.

Eventually both men stopped in the parking lot of the Newport News Police Department at 9710 Jefferson Avenue.

An investigation revealed that the driver of the Cadillac allegedly cut the victim off in traffic and the two men exchanged words. During the exchange, the driver of the Cadillac sped away and the victim followed.

At some point, the driver of the Cadillac allegedly pointed a gun at the victim.

The gun was located in the Cadillac. It was seized and placed into Property and Evidence.

Police issued 37-year-old Tiyon Lyons a summons for brandishing/pointing a firearm.
