Man found shot in Chesapeake field

Chesapeake, Va. - A man has been taken to the hospital after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a field.

Police responded to the scene in the 700 block of Partridge Avenue. When they arrived, they found the man lying in the field. Calls came in about the shooting at 9:02 p.m. Tuesday night.

The man was hospitalized with serious injuries, but not life threatening.

Police say two men were involved in an altercation in the 700 block of Partridge Avenue Tuesday night, when one of them was shot.

The shooter called police shortly after it happened, and told them he was involved, NewsChannel 3 has learned.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The shooting remains under investigation.

The victim is currently in the hospital recovering from his injuries, police say.

A woman told NewsChannel 3 she heard what sounded like three or four shots fired. She thought a car was backfiring, but later learned a man had been shot near her home.

Police have not released many details about the shooting, but say the man should survive.

Investigators hope someone can help -- they are asking anyone with information to take action and call the Crime Line.
