Woman accidentally labeled sexual predator on driver’s license

Posted

CLERMONT, Fla. — A woman who recently moved from Virginia to Florida was mistakenly labeled a sexual predator when she got a new driver’s license, according to WFTV.

When Florida residents get their driver’s license, clerks have a drop-down menu where they select whether a person has chosen to be an organ donor.

Tammy Lemaster wanted to be an organ donor but was instead labeled a sexual predator.

Lemaster’s attorney,  John Phillips, told WFTV the mistake has caused her a lot of embarrassment.

He told WFTV that Lemaster didn’t notice the mistake until a judge pointed it out at a court appearance for a traffic violation.

“(She) started noticing people were treating her the wrong way,” Phillips told WFTV. “(A) hotel wouldn’t let her stay. (She) went to Disney World, the ‘Happiest Place on Earth,’ (and) they said, ‘We can’t let you in the park.’”

Now Lemaster’s attorney is asking the state to fix the computer drop-down menu to avoid future mistakes like this one.

“They’re on notice. It’s time to change it,” Phillips said. “If nothing else, everybody in the state of Florida needs to look at their license.”

Lemaster received her new license Thursday.
