Chesapeake, Va. – A man has been taken into custody following an attempted bank robbery in Chesapeake on Wednesday, police tell NewsChannel 3.
At 1:25 p.m., Chesapeake Police responded to the SunTrust bank located in the 100 block of Volvo Pkwy. in reference to an attempted robbery.
Witnesses told police that the suspect entered the building armed with a knife, wearing an orange bandana around his face. The suspect approached one of the tellers and demanded money. The employee hesitated, and the suspect fled the bank on a bicycle without the money, police say.
No injuries were reported.
Police responded to the area and spotted the suspect at the Shell gas station located nearby in the 1400 block of North Battlefield Blvd. The suspect was taken into custody. He has been identified as 21-year-old Vontrell Rodgers. He has been charged with Attempted Robbery, Wearing a Mask in Public and Entering a Financial Institution with the Intent to Commit Larceny.
The incident is currently under investigation. Charges are pending, police say.
