CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina couple received quite the slithery surprise in their kitchen last weekend.

Laura Neff said she was enjoying a typical Sunday afternoon when she heard a noise in the kitchen. She found a large rat snake crawling out of her spice cabinet and lowering itself toward a basket of fresh eggs on the counter.

She explained that it is a Rat Snake, otherwise known as a Black Racer. “Non-venomous, beneficial due to their penchant for eating rodents and (OUTSIDE) eggs.”

Using two brooms, a whole lot of patience, nudging, and encouraging, we finally convinced it that going out the open window was a MUCH better option than slithering away behind the fridge! As soon as we could get its bulk under the brooms, we hefted it out the window, and off it went to the rest of its evening.
