Suffolk, Va. – Suffolk Police are currently investigating a crash that occurred earlier this morning at 58 West at Portsmouth Boulevard.
Emergency Communications received the call at 6:16 a.m. advising of the accident involving a Hyundai Sonata.
Officials say the vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the woods, causing the male driver to be pinned.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel had to extricate the driver, and provided emergency medical assessment and treatment. The driver was airlifted by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, police say.
The on-ramp was closed for approximately 15 minutes as personnel worked to extricate the driver.
All lanes reopened at 7:07 a.m.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
