Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Beach Police shot and killed an aggressive dog Sunday afternoon.
Police say it happened in the around 3:17 pm in the 4000 block of Vinland Circle.
During the initial approach, three unsecured dogs quickly moved in an aggressive manner toward an officer. The officer attempted to run away and shouted at the dogs.
Two of the dogs turned away, but one dog continued to move forward and charged at the officer.
The officer drew his weapon and fired one round to stop the attack.
The dog died from the gun shot wound. Police say it was a golden retriever.
Neighbors tell NewsChannel 3 the dog had always seemed friendly and never caused any problems.
The Virginia Beach Police Internal Affairs Office is conducting the investigation. NewsChannel 3 asked police about the status of the officer during the investigation, and we are still waiting to hear back.
