Virginia Beach, Va. - A group of fifth graders from Seatack Elementary School in Virginia Beach saw the beach for the first time today.
The students took a field trip over to the Westminister-Canterbury Retirement Community where they played backyard games with the residents.
This is the second year the school and the community teamed up for the event. Throughout the school year, the seniors have been visiting the students taking on rolls as mentors. With school coming to a close, both groups came together to celebrate the students moving on to middle school next fall.
The kids learned how to play bocce ball, croquet and ping pong. Organizers say this was a chance for the kids to learn how to improve their interactions with older adults as well.
As for the seniors, they say going out and playing with the kids made them feel young again.
