Newport News, Va. – A homeless man faces multiple charges after allegedly choking a woman and giving a false identity to police.

On Monday at approximately 3:30 p.m. police received several calls reporting a man assaulting a woman in the area of Hickory Point Blvd. and Warwick Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they observed 26-year-old Nicholas Brandon Turner strangling the woman and arrested him.

Police discovered that both were homeless and the 24-year-old woman was Turner’s girlfriend.

Witnesses reported that before police arrived the two were arguing and Turner punched the woman in the chest and choked her.

During the investigation Mr. Turner gave officers false information about his identity, police say.

Turner was charged with two counts of abduction by force and intimidation, two counts of strangulation, and one count each of assault and battery and false identity to police.
