Business is booming at Cure Coffeehouse’s pop-up shop

Posted

Norfolk, Va. - Cure Coffeehouse & Brasserie says thanks to you, they are open for business at a pop-up shop on Granby Street.

This comes less than two weeks after an overhang on their building on Botetourt Street collapsed.

The collapse rendered the building unsafe and the businesses inside were forced to close for the time being.

Cure owner Chris Shelton says he can’t help but feel paternalistic over what he calls his work family.

“As a business owner with employees and you know they have rent to pay that is dependent on your ability to run this business, when something like this happens that is one of the major things that goes through your head,” he says.

But thanks to the community Taking Action over the weekend, Cure’s pop-up bar is booming.

Not only did the owner of the space let Cure move in for free for the time being, the weekend business was enough to keep Shelton’s employees on the grind until the business is back up and running on Botetourt Street.

That’s expected to happen within the next week or so.

“We are able to come in here and do that probably not making any money past paying the employees but keeping them working and paying their rent is really important and just satisfies that paternalistic thing that comes with being a business owner,” Shelton says.

Because of the success and help from the community, Cure Coffeehouse & Brasserie and Hummingbird Macarons & Desserts are hosting a benefit bash this weekend.
