Lightning strike starts fire in Virginia Beach home

Virginia Beach, Va. — A townhome in Virginia Beach caught fire as the result of a lightning strike early Wednesday morning.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department was dispatched at 3:40 AM to a residential fire in the 4500 block of Plumstead Drive.

Units arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the roof.  It took 15 minutes to control the fire.

There were no injuries.  The occupant was home at the time of the fire and has been displaced.
