Man accused of raping woman in Newport News arrested at girlfriend’s apartment

Newport News, Va. – Police have arrested a man who they say raped a  54-year-old woman in Newport News.

Police say they responded to the scene on Saturday, June 20th in the 700 block of 32nd Street.

The victim told them that she was walking down the street when 27-year-old Jim Allen Johnson grabbed her and forced her to a nearby lot where he sexually assaulted her.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives who were investigating this case obtained arrest warrants but were unable to find Johnson.

Johnson was wanted for rape, abduction and strangulation.

Johnson was arrested on Tuesday at his girlfriend’s apartment in the 11100 block of Jefferson Avenue in Newport News.

He is now in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.
