Southampton County, Va. – A magnitude 2.2 earthquake was measured in Southampton County at approximately 2:10 a.m. Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s website.
The earthquake was the second reported in two days in Virginia. The first was also a magnitude 2.2 reported Saturday with an epicenter in Louisa, just east of Charlottesville.
While uncommon, Virginia is no stranger to earthquakes. In 2011, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake was measured. The epicenter for that earthquake was also in Louisa. The earthquake was reportedly felt in states all along the East Coast and in several parts of eastern Canada.
