Virginia Beach, Va. - A Hampton Roads Transit bus crashed into a pole and injured three people Thursday evening, causing road repairs to last until Friday morning.

Laskin Road was closed in both directions between Nevan Drive and Hill Top East Shopping Center until about 11:00 Friday morning.

The accident happened on Laskin Road at 6:28 p.m. near the Hilltop North Shopping Center.

HRT Public Affairs says the bus hit a traffic light pole while trying to swerve out of the way of another car.  There were a total of nine people, including the driver when the bus crashed. Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were all passengers.

Josh Peeples, Assistant Manager at Taylor's Do It Center, which is right across from where the crash happened, says business was a little slower than expected on Friday morning. He heard the crash happen the night before, and took action to bring the passengers to safety.

"First thing I thought was to try to get everyone off, because you don’t know what’s going to happen, if someone is not paying attention they could hit the back of it and cause even a bigger problem," he says. "We went up to the front and the bus driver just asked if we could help get people off the back, so me and another gentleman had to go open the back doors."

Virginia Beach Police say they still have not determined who was at fault in the crash. No charges have been filed yet, and they say the investigation is on-going.

A spokesman for HRT says they will conduct their own review of the circumstances including interviews with customers, if possible, the operator, and a review of the tape prior to the accident.
