Woman seriously injured in Norfolk apartment fire

Norfolk, Va. – A woman is recovering from serious injuries after crews rescued her from an apartment fire on Thursday afternoon.

The fire occurred in the 400 block of Fenchurch Avenue.

Emergency dispatchers were called at 2:27 p.m. and units arrived at 2:49 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke on the second floor of an apartment unit.

They found a woman on the second floor and she was then taken to the hospital.

A neighbor rescued a pet from the home before firefighters arrived.

The cause is still under investigation.
