Newport News, Va. – U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command transferred commanding authority of the Center for Initial Military Training to Major General Anthony C. Funkhouser on Tuesday, July 2.

The change of command ceremony took place at Fort Eustis. Funkhouser took over for Major General Ross E. Ridge. Ridge has served with the Center for Initial Military Training since November 2013. He received the Distinguished Service Medal at his retirement review.

Incoming Commanding General Funkhouser is reporting from Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He served as the 95th Commandant of the U.S. Army Engineer School.

At the ceremony, Funkhouser remarked, “We get the first opportunity to influence and impress upon our Army’s men and women volunteers that we are part of a profession, and we’ll provide you the tools that you need to get through as a ‘Soldier for Life’ in this experience.”
