Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - A planned project could bring some improvements to the drainage systems in the Aragona section of Virginia Beach.

The city plans to address current drainage inadequacies by replacing a major storm sewer trunk line on DeLaura Lane with a significantly larger system.

Public Work Operations has also completed a cleaning and lining project in the area to identify problem areas, including significant blockages.

"A lot of times it will flood, especially the street. It’s usually not too bad but when it rains a lot, it definitely floods pretty bad," resident Chantel Mulhearn told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo Monday.

The project is currently in the design phase and construction could start within a year.

Meanwhile the city is continuing maintenance projects including lining pipes and cleaning ditches.
