Isle of Wight Co., Va. - Residents in Isle of Wight County can now send text messages to 911 in emergency situations.
Anyone with a cell phone from one of the nation's largest carriers -- AT&T, Sprint or Verizon, and are capable of sending text messages can send the texts to 911 for police or fire assistance as long as they are in range of an Isle of Wight cell tower.
Officials say using a phone to call 911 is still the most efficient way to reach emergency help.
