Newport News, VA – Newport News Police Department will host the Youth Engagement Summer Program, in partnership with the United States Coast Guard, at U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown from July 6 – July 10, 2015.
The program is open to youth between the ages of 13 and 17.
Attendants will spend five days and four nights at USCG Training Center Yorktown, chaperoned by members of the Newport News Police Department, and will participate in a variety of activities aimed to enhance leadership and communication skills and promote positive relationships between youth and police officers.
Some of the activities the teens will participate in include basic Olympic Games, various athletic challenges, maritime training, knot tying and an obstacle course. Participants will graduate from the program at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2014.
Graduates from previous years have gone on to become police officers and active military personnel.
This is the first of three programs NNPD and USCG will be hosting this year. Two more will take place in August.
