Virginia Beach, Va. - Several residents have been displaced after lightning strikes hit two different homes in Virginia Beach.
The first one happened just before 2 p.m. in the Wesleyan Chase neighborhood on Freehold Close.
Firefighters say when they arrived on scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the roof area. Firefighters were able to put the fire out within 15 minutes. Two people are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Minutes later, a second fire was ignited by a lightning strike at 1257 Adair Lane in the Gleenwood area of the city. Smoke and flames were showing from the roof of the house when firefighters arrived.
According to firefighters, the residents of the home will be displaced.
Firefighters in Norfolk were also fighting a fire that was likely caused by a lightning strike. That fire happened at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Middlesex Street. There was minor damage to the roof of the building.
