Newport News, Va. - A Newport News man faces multiple charges after he allegedly molested a 12-year-old girl over a period of two years.
On January 13, 2015, the Newport News Police Department’s Special Victims Unit received a Child Protective Services referral regarding the girl having been molested by 53-year-old Timothy Alan McLean between January 2013 and January 2015 while in his care.
The incidents occurred at McLean's residence and the victim and McLean are known to each other.
Following a thorough investigation, McLean was arrested on Wednesday and charged with five counts each of aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial relationship.
McLean is in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.
Neighbors say they cannot believe their quiet, friendly neighbor is behind bars.
A police affidavit goes into graphic and precise detail about the abuse McLean touching her inappropriately.
Other times, court documents say, McLean would stop as soon as the victim seemed to wake up, but the documents say the incidents kept happening. Police started to investigate in January.
He is scheduled to be in court next week.
