Military truck spills gallons of fuel into Hampton drain

Posted

Hampton, Va. – Between 20 and 25 gallons of fuel has spilled from a military truck carrying a fuel tank and ended up in a nearby drain.

It happened in the 2700 block of Mercury Boulevard right in front of the Relax Inn around 4:30 this afternoon causing the four lanes of traffic to be reduced to only one lane.

According to Hampton police, the fuel spilled after the tank shifted during the drive.

The Hampton Fire Department and HAST team were called out to deal with the fuel that spilled into the drain. They spent hours working to keep the fuel from spreading.

In addition to city teams, Ft. Eustis sent a crew to assist in the clean up. There is still only one lane of traffic on Mercury Blvd. but no major back ups right now as Crews continue to clean up the fuel.
