Portsmouth, Va. – On Monday morning, a Portsmouth City employee was mugged inside of a parking garage.

A city official says this happened in the garage on Crawford Street at around 11 a.m.

The victim in this case was the city’s Accessor. Police say she was pushed down and by the time she got up, someone had taken off with her purse and ran away.

She says she did not see anything before this happened.

On Tuesday, the Interim City Manager Brannon Godfrey issued the following statement about the incident:

“While it is likely that this situation is an isolated incident; however, the city has increased. Police Department presence and Security Contractor patrols in the stairwells and parking garage of the Portsmouth City Hall while also encouraging city employees and the public to remain alert and vigilant.”
