Astoria, OR (KPTV) — The owner of a prominent Astoria home featured in the popular movie “The Goonies” has been overwhelmed by a flood of visitors, which, according to a city councilor, has grown to as many as 1500 people in a single day.

Ward 4 Councilman Russ Warr, who lives roughly 100 yards from the home, said the home’s owner has resorted to covering the front and side of the house with blue tarp, as a means of discouraging visitors.

Warr said the overwhelming majority of visitors are gracious and friendly, but a few bad apples have soured the experience for the home’s owner, and her neighbors.

“They’ve gotten in confrontations with the home owner. They’ve done vandalism. They have relieved themselves on the property, on the driveway,” said Warr.

Warr said the city has already put up signs proclaiming the property is closed to visitation, but people frequently disregard the signs and walk directly up to the home.

“The sheer numbers of people that are here every day have just started to become unbearable,” said Warr.

Warr said the council will be considering additional measures to attempt to protect the homeowner’s privacy, including the possibility of relinquishing the street to property owners, which would allow them to put up a security gate.
