3 major hurricanes form in Pacific for the first time in recorded history

Posted

A very rare meteorological event occurred early Sunday morning when three Category 4 hurricanes were seen swirling in the Pacific Ocean at the same time.

Hurricane Ignacio, Hurricane Jimena, and Hurricane Kilo were all Category 4 hurricanes Sunday morning, with maximum sustained winds of 130-156 mph, but by 5:00 p.m., Hurricane Kilo and Ignacio had both started to weaken.

At this time, Hurricane Kilo and Hurricane Jimena remain Category 4 storms while Hurricane Ignacio is a Category 3 storm.

This was the first recorded occurrence of three Category 4 hurricanes in the central and eastern Pacific at the same time.
