Portsmouth, Va. – A Portsmouth mother has pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor after leaving her 4-year-old son at home while she allegedly went shopping.

Police say Laniece D. Wilson, the child’s mother, left the home while the 4-year-old boy was asleep.

Wilson was originally arrested and charged with child cruelty after her son was found wandering alone near a retention pond. The child was not injured.

Charges of child neglect and abuse were dropped.

Wilson’s 12 months of jail time have been suspended. She was sentenced to two years of supervised probation.
