Christiansburg, Va. – More than 20 Christiansburg High School students are out of class Thursday morning after wearing Confederate flags on their clothing, according to WDBJ.
Montgomery County Public Schools spokesperson Brenda Drake told WDBJ the students were originally put in in-school suspension.
However, some of the students didn’t comply, Drake said, and they were told to leave school for the day.
The students protested the school’s decision across the street Thursday morning.
Wearing Confederate flag symbols on clothing violates the school’s dress code policy.
Last month students were told to remove Confederate flag bumper stickers from their cars.
