Coast Guard enforces safety in local waterways due to inclement weather

Posted

Oregon Inlet, NC- The Coast Guard of North Carolina is enforcing a regulated navigation range around the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge in Oregon Inlet, NC for safety reasons.

Vessels with a draft of 5 feet or longer will not be allowed within 100 yards of the bridge until further notice.

Issues with the Inlet have come from shifts in channel conditions due to the recent bad weather. Sailors are advised to seek alternate routes to and from the ocean and also use extreme caution while in this area.

The Coast Guard enforces these restrictions only when necessary in order to keep ships from crashing into the bridge.

The Coast Guard will continue to monitor conditions and send updates as necessary. For any questions or concerns, please contact the Sector North Carolina Command Center at 910-343-3880.
