Chesapeake, Va. - Two people were shot on Friday evening after several men were wrestling in the front yard of a Chesapeake neighborhood.

This occurred in the 2300 block of Herring Ditch Road. Police were notified at around 5 p.m.

Police say several men were wrestling when things escalated into a physical altercation.  One of the men pulled out a gun and shot two people.

One person is suffering from life-threatening injuries and the other victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. Both were taken to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital where they continue to recover from their injuries.

The shooter ran away after the incident, but police were able to apprehend him about a quarter mile away from the scene.

He has been identified as 37-year-old Coley Koon of Gates County, NC. He has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held at the Chesapeake City Jail.

"Don`t know why it got so escalated so that one had to shoot the other. Just happened," says Ty Davis who was hosting a friendly get together with some of the people he works with at his home. He says he and co-workers do this every year, but this time the party took a violent turn.

"Somebody didn't agree with someone else and apparently someone pulled a gun and shot a couple people. It wasn't cool," says Davis.

Davis says he didn't actually see the shooting happen but he rushed to help the victims.

"I showed up right after and helped the guys out; that is why I have blood on my shirt," says Davis.

Charges are pending at this time.
