Thieves break-in, steal items from woman’s Newport News home

Posted

Newport News, Va. - Police in Newport News are investigating an early morning break-in and burglary in the 5700 block of Surry Avenue.

Police say the victim reported that she had left her house around 3:45 a.m. to take her boyfriend to work. At that time, she says she also saw a few boys in hoodies lingering around outside.

"I automatically thought it was suspicious," she says.

When she returned at 4:15 a.m., she found that a window had been broken and her home had been ransacked.

Two televisions, a Playstation, shoes, two cell phones, and a backpack containing documents were missing from the home.

The victim said she found the back door was unlocked and she believes that is where the thieves escaped.

"I'm pregnant so I don't think I'll be able to sleep at night," she says.

She has only lived in the Cottage Grove Apartments for two months but now she is reconsidering her lease.

"Because if someone is actually patrolling the neighborhood I think they would have seen these guys," she says.
