James City County, Va. – Fire crews put out a fire in the attic of a home in James City County Sunday night.
Fire units were dispatched to the fire in the 2000 block of Durfeys Mill Road in James City County at 9:38 p.m. When they arrived at 9:45 p.m. they found moderate smoke and fire showing from the roof.
Upon entering the attic space firefighters encountered intense smoke and fire.
The fire was brought under control at 10:22 p.m. The entire attic space suffered significant fire and smoke damage.
The living areas of the residence suffered light smoke and water damage.
Two people were home at the time of the fire and discovered the fire after their smoke alarms sounded and they saw black smoke coming from HVAC vents.
The occupants and their two dogs evacuated the home before the Fire Department arrived.
Fire units remained on the scene for several hours removing debris and checking for additional fire damage. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
