Fairfax, Va. – A high school near Washington D.C. was evacuated Friday morning due to a fire in a classroom.

Officials say the fire happened in a chemistry classroom at W.T. Woodson High School.

A hazmat team was onsite earlier in the morning while the building was being cleared, according to the school’s website.

Five students were injured and taken to local hospitals.

Fairfax County Public Schools say the rest of the students were moved to the school’s football stadium.

Students were dismissed at 12:55 p.m. due to a two-hour early release that was previously scheduled.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
