Newport News, Va. – Police have new developments in the investigation of a robbery a Shell Gas Station on Jefferson Avenue.
Authorities say a suspected robber came into the gas station around 10:15 p.m. on October 29.
Police say the suspect seemed to be talking on his cell phone and waited for the clerk to finish a transaction with a customer before robbing the business.
We’re now learning that police believe a customer who made a purchase moments before the robbery may be able to help solve the crime.
After the customer made his purchase, he faced the robbery suspect as he came up to the counter. Authorities say he may have made observations that could help solve the case.
After the transaction was completed, the suspect came up to the clerk, pulled out a handgun from his waistband and demanded from the register.
After the clerk gave the suspect the money, he left in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described as a black man around 6′ with a thin to medium build. He was last seen wearing dark colored pants, a maroon long sleeve t-shirt and a dark colored baseball hat with an unknown emblem on it.
