Newport News, Va. - A Newport News mother was arrested Saturday night after police reportedly found her drunk and lying on the sidewalk with her son attempting to wake her up.

Police say they were called to the 12000 block of Warwick Boulevard around 11:50 p.m. Saturday night and found 26-year-old Patricia Kristine Wagner on the sidewalk near a restaurant.
Her 7-year-old son was attempting to wake her up.
Wagner told officers that she was returning to her apartment when she stopped and laid down on the sidewalk to rest her feet.
Officers say they detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her. An open container of an alcoholic beverage was found next to Wagner on the sidewalk.
Wagner was arrested for intoxication in public and child neglect.
Child Protective Services was contacted and her son was placed with a neighbor.
