You can help a Chesapeake school get a new playground

Posted

Chesapeake, Va. - You can help a Chesapeake School get a new playground without doing much.

Outdated is how Heather Lesanes describes the playground at her son's school, Crestwood Intermediate School in Chesapeake.

Darlene Nichols' nephew goes to school and she agrees. She said, "It needs to be upgraded."

A teacher at the school took action and entered the school into a contest to win $25,000 in grant money for new playground equipment.

Bridgestone Tires has teamed up with the NFL for the contest.

Right now, there are ten schools across the nation in the final running and Crestwood Intermediate is one of them.

For the next 13 days, people can vote online for their school to win.

"My son goes to the school and I want him to have somewhere nice to play and he's excited about it," said Lesanes.

There are 800 kids who go to the school.

School leaders said the playground is about 15 years old and they've tried for the last three years to raise money and have about $3,000 but need more.

"I think it's a great idea. I actually voted," said Lesanes.

They are hoping the community takes action and goes online to vote and helps them get results with a new playground.

People are allowed to vote once a day.
