Rules governing sandbags on North Carolina beaches could be changing

Posted

Kitty Hawk, N.C. (WTKR) - The rules that govern sandbags on beaches in North Carolina could be changing thanks to direction from the North Carolina General Assembly.

The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission was told to ease the restrictions on sandbags to help combat beach erosion.

Among the changes that could take effect next year: allowing sandbags on properties where there are vacant homes or businesses next door and allowing the sandbags to sit on the beach for a longer amount of time.

A public comment period started Tuesday, December 1st and runs through December 22nd.
