ECSU introduces new app to help improve campus security

Elizabeth City, N.C. - Elizabeth City State University has a new smartphone app to help improve security at the school.

NowForce was made available to all ECSU faculty, staff and students last week.

Users can swipe the S.O.S. button in case of emergency. Users will be given four seconds to cancel the call.

Students can anonymously report incidents they see around campus on the app--but that's not the game changer.

The app, for Android and iPhone users, records and sends officers live streaming video of what's happening when a student calls for help.

The app allows law enforcement to pinpoint the exact location of a caller and shows how long it will take the officer to arrive at the location.

"If you are not safe, you are not going to be able to keep students, parents are not going to be happy," said campus police chief John Manley "We want to make sure students know that they're safe."
