‘Big Bang Theory’ finale finally puts Sheldon and Amy to bed

Tonight’s episode of “The Big Bang Theory” is going to have a lot of jokes tied to its title.

Fan favorite characters Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) will lose their virginity to each other.

The wildly popular CBS series has been building up to this momentous occasion through lots of the ups and downs in the relationship between the geek scientists, known to fans as “Shamy.”

The couple broke up, much to the sadness of some die-hard fans, and co-creator Chuck Lorre said the show has waited more than eight seasons to have the pair become intimate.

“It helped spur them to move forward and pursue their relationship more aggressively, having realized that you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, as the song goes,” Lorre told The Hollywood Reporter. “That happened for Sheldon — missing Amy was wearing on him in a way he hadn’t anticipated.”

In the episode, titled “The Opening Night Excitation,” Sheldon faces the ultimate geek test: He must choose between seeing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on opening day and sleeping with Amy to celebrate her birthday.

Parsons, who has won four Emmys for his portrayal of Sheldon, told CBS News that “Sheldon’s eager for her to know she’s special to him, and this is one of the items on the list that he feels could show that.”

In other “Big Bang” news, there is speculation that cast member Kaley Cuoco may be romantically involved with “Arrow” actor Paul Blackthorne.

Blackthorne posted an Instagram of Cuoco, who plays Penny on the show, wearing a shirt in support of his rhino conservation charity.

The actress recently split from her husband of 21 months, tennis pro Ryan Sweeting.
