Gloucester Point caterer wins $5 million on scratcher just days before Christmas

Gloucester Point, Va. – Someone is going to have a very merry Christmas.

Johnathan Hirtenstein of Gloucester Point won five million dollars in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash Blowout game.

“It feels amazing,” says Hirtenstein who told lottery officials that he just walked in, picked out the right ticket and won.

He works as a caterer and he says he bought the ticket from a Stop and Go on George Washington Memorial Highway in Gloucester Point.

He was given the option to take $5 million over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $2, 686, 965. He chose to take the cash.

The store was given a $10,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.

“I never thought I’d win anything,” he said. “It just doesn’t happen to many people.”
