Newport News mom arrested after three young kids found at home alone

Newport News, Va. – A 27-year-old mother was arrested in Newport News early Saturday morning after her three young children were found at home alone.

Police say they were called to the home in the 400 block of Turlington Road around 1:15 a.m. after reports of hearing loud children inside.

ng telephones and officers also found what was believed to be drug paraphernalia.

The mother, 27-year-old Tamequa Boykin, returned home with her boyfriend, Aaron Bumpers, around 2:45 a.m.

Boykin told officers that she left the home around 11:30 p.m. to go to a friend’s house and left the children sleeping and in the care of her brother.

Boykin was ultimately arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and three counts of child neglect.

Bumpers was placed into custody on outstanding warrants from Chesapeake.

The drug paraphernalia was seized and removed from the home and Child Protective Services was contacted. The children were placed with a friend of the family.
