Norfolk father charged after 4-year-old son accidentally shoots himself

Norfolk, Va. - A Norfolk man is in jail after his 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself over the weekend.

Police were called to a home in the 400 block of W. 27th Street just before 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

When they arrived, they found the 4-year-old boy with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover.

The boy's father, Bradley J. Shines, told police that his son was unattended when the he found Shines' gun in his bedroom and accidentally shot himself.

Shines has been charged with one count of felony child neglect and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is currently in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
