New Kent County – A Williamsburg man was killed early Wednesday morning in a two vehicle crash in New Kent County.

The crash occurred at 5:19 a.m. on Interstate 64 eastbound at the 214.1 mile marker, just before the New Kent Courthouse exit.

27-year-old Charles E.S. Garrett of Williamsburg died at the scene. Garrett was driving a 2006 Honda Civic at a high rate of speed when it changed lanes from the right lane to the left, then back, striking an eastbound 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer

The Civic became wedged under the trailer of the Freightliner.

The driver of the tractor trailer thought a tire had blown and pulled over, at which point realized he had been struck by another vehicle.

Garrett was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
