Newport News, Va. – Police arrested a man in connection to the death of Dashanika Sherrod, a woman shot to in her apartment while her children were inside.
Police arrested Anthony Mark Smith, Jr. for first degree murder, possession of firearm by a felon, burglary and use of firearm in the commission of a felony.
Authorities say Smith and the victim were a couple and recently broke up.
The family has set up ago fund me accountto help pay for Sherrod’s funeral expenses.
Smith was arraigned on January, 11th.
He appeared in front of the judge for destruction of property, failure to appear, use of a firearm, burglary, and first-degree murder.
He has been assigned an court-appointed lawyer.
His preliminary court hearing is March 11th, 2016.
